Social Networking Secrets of Benjamin Franklin

Friday, April 25, 2003

We must never think of individual freedom and the social good as being opposed to each other; we must never suppose that where personal liberty is strong, society will be weak and impoverished, or that where the nation is strong the individual will necessarily be in shackles. The wealth of nations, the defence of national freedom, and the well-being of society--all these depend on the faith and exertions of men and women. It is an old and simple truth, but it is sometimes forgotten in political debate.

- Margaret Thatcher

Anyone who asks a question should not, under any circumstance, be ridiculed. All mockery does is produce resentment in every employee, guarantee that no one will ask questions, and provoke the staff to perform their duties with a total absence of pride. Instead, every question should be taken seriously, given proper consideration, and answered in full. In fact, every question should be treated as an opportunity to increase the quality of service.

I Feel Great

Breakthroughs let you outthink, outleverage, outmarket, outsell, outperform, outimpact, outdefend, outmaneuver, and continuously outwit your competition on every level. Do this constantly and you cannot help but ultimately become and remain the dominant and leading force and choice in your field, market, or career category. Leadership becomes the natural (almost effortless) by-product of seeing and creating breakthroughs.

Getting Everything You Can Out Of All You've Got

We're rebels, loners, reluctant warriors, pioneers, and optimists. We believe in the man - or woman - of action, trust in the merit of the common individual, root for the underdog. We are a self-made people who see our country assigned to some great mission...We are a people raised on such grand American notions. They comprise the most vital, most provocative, most consequential self-portrait in human history.

American Beyond Our Grandest Notions

On a motion picture I have a team of anywhere from one hundred to two hundred people. Some are technicians, some are artists, some are craftsmen, and some are just laborers. Part of the trick is not creating situations where you're inviting contests of egos. And oddly enough, the more willing you seem to be to let people participate, the less need they have to force participation. It's the threat of being left out that exacerbates their ego problems and creates clashes.
