Social Networking Secrets of Benjamin Franklin

Forget all about "creativity" as it is commonly perceived and understood. If you feel like you haven't got a creative bone in your body, you can stop worrying about that, because it clearly doesn't matter. In fact, creative folks need to fight creativity for creativity's sake and focus instead on doing what has already proven itself, a bit better. Never underestimate the value and power of the ordinary implemented with extraordinary zeal and diligence.

In warfare, if you oppose a numerous enemy with only a few, you must do so when the sun is setting, through ambushes concealed by deep vegetation or by intercepting them on a confined road. Under such circumstances you will invariably prove victorious. A tactical principle from the Wu-tzu states: "When employing a few, concentrate upon narrows."

The sole reason for your company to exist is to meet your needs. The founder's first obligation is to himself or herself. Part of what people don't get is that if that obligation isn't satisfied, none of the others [to customers, employees, and so on] can be satisfied, either. Not really, not over time. When your company doesn't fulfill your needs first, everything unravels. Either the business will just fall apart or you'll wind up with this sick, co-dependent, very toxic environment. The company won't support your life on any level. And if it's not life-supporting, why bother? There are so many other ways to make a living in this world.

The antiheroic leader, instead of considering for a moment that he or she might be the person to execute the plans or projects that arise in the course of business, always assumes there's a better option. Instead of asking, "How can I do that?" the antiheroic leader asks "Who can do that?" "Who knows how to do that?" "Who can help me get that done?"

Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think.

Martin Luther King, Jr.
